Rogue Deck Builder is an endlessly replayable double decker roguelike deck builder tower defense game with fishing (available in a future update).

You play as a middle-aged man named Joe who works in construction. The city council recently passed legislation limiting the size of all backyard patios and porch like annexes.

Facing both an existential and midlife crisis, Joe has begun malding. He's gonna build his deck however he wants, Karens and the architectural review board be damned! He will become the Rogue Deck Builder.

Rogue Deck Builder has two distinct phases. You first build your deck using resources and building actions. Once you've run out of resources, it becomes night and you must  defend your deck from jealous neighbors and building inspectors.

Build turrets to defend your deck. Repair your deck and prevent wood rot. Shoot whoever gets in your way.

Jealous neighbors will attempt to tear down your deck by attacking the supporting posts. If they succeed, the deck will collapse beneath you. If they destroy too much of the deck, you begin to lose hope of ever being satisfied with your work and will face an interminable midlife crisis that can't be fixed by purchasing expensive cars.

How to play:
If you are playing on Windows, start out by toggling fullscreen with the F11 key. It looks way better.

Control Joe with the WASD keys. Spend energy to build postholes, joists, and deck paneling.

Deckbuilding Basics:
As in real life, you must build your deck by laying down postholes, connecting the postholes with a rim joist, and then placing deck paneling over the newly joisted section.

Click to place a posthole. Select joist from the menu and then click on the posthole you want to connect with a rim joist. Click a second time to finish the rim joist.

Any rectangular region with rim joists surrounding it will become joisted and will appear with vertical supporting bars. Select deck panel from the menu to place a deck panel on the joisted section.

Joe can only walk where there is a deck. He is very protective of his deck and doesn't want to leave it alone. He has good reason to feel this way because building inspectors are always stopping by to condemn his sprawling deck.

Pickups:
The world map has card pickups and bonuses scattered throughout it. To activate them, you must first build your deck around them and place deck paneling.

Once you walk up to the card pickup or bonus event, press the 'E' key to interact with it.

Cards:
Rogue Deck Builder is the first deck builder that is also a deck builder. Cards allow you to place new structures on top of the deck. You can place turrets and repair bays. Turrets shoot the neighbors. Repair bays grant repair charges you can use to repair the deck.

How To Repair:
Repair bays grant one repair charge per turn. You can use the repair charge to fully repair any damaged posthole. Just click on repair, and then click on the posthole you want to repair. You can't repair without any repair charges.

Repair charges are not stored up between turns. If you have a repair bay that grants one repair charge, you need to use it on the turn it was granted. Otherwise you lose it.

H, W, A:
Throughout the game, you will see different cards with a letter prefix. For example, you might see something called an "FR H Turret" wtf is this?

H stands for height. FR stands for Fire Rate. This means the turret's fire rate is function of the height of the deck panel it sits on. If you create a single deck panel that's 4 tiles tall, you get 4x the fire rate.

It's a similar thing with repair bays. For example, a W Repair Bay would grant 4 repairs per turn if it's sitting on a single deck panel that is four tiles wide.

A stands for area. If you have an "FR A Turret," its fire rate is a function of the area of the deck panel it sits on. A panel six by four tiles wide would grant a 10x fire rate bonus, making for a turret which is highly capable of keeping jealous neighbors away from your deck.

In Rogue Deck Builder, the deckbuilding affects the deckbuilding. The cards you pick will affect how you expand your sprawling patio.

Resources:
There are three resources. Pink, Red, and Blue rocks. All deck top structures have an energy and resource cost.

When you build your deck around a resource, it will become incorporated into your deck, and you will gain one of that resource per turn. You need to expand your deck to acquire new resources and to play the cards that let you build defensive turrets.

Energy:
The most important building actions require the use of energy. Depending on your difficulty setting, you may be granted seven or twelve energy per turn.

By default, energy does not get stored up between turns. You need to use up all of the energy you are granted or lose it when you click "end turn."

How to win:
As in life, you don't ever win. You just play the game as long as you can and survive.

How to lose (Deck Collapse):
If you are standing on a deck panel and an enemy's attack causes that deck panel to collapse, you will die. It might not look like it, but your deck is very tall so you have imagine Joe falling to his death and getting crushed by the rubble from the deck falling all over him.

Deck panels which are under attack will appear in red. When you see red deck panels, be aware that it is dangerous to be standing on them. You are at risk until the neighbor stops attacking the postholes which support that deck panel.

How to lose (Malding):
Joe can also suffer psychological damage and undergo an interminable midlife crisis.

Every time a posthole is destroyed, and Joe's chance of finding satisfaction with his work goes down, Joe starts malding. Malding is currently represented by the heart meter. Every heart that goes away means Joe is malding even more than before. When you run out of hearts, Joe malds so much he can no longer regain his sanity.
